Sandringham Estate gates lined with flowers as people leave tributes to Queen Elizabeth II - Norfolk Live

"It's a sad day for our nation and our people. We have lost our Queen"

Floral bouquets surround the gates of the Queen's Norfolk residence this morning following Her Majesty's death. The UK's longest serving monarch sadly passed away peacefully at her home in Balmoral yesterday (September 8) at the age of 96.

Around 100 people had gathered by early evening, yesterday outside Sandringham Estate to pay their respects. This morning, rain did not deter the well wishers, who were armed with umbrellas and flowers. Many pet owners brought their dogs too, as a heartwarming tribute to the Queen's beloved Corgis.

Sandringham Estate is well known for being the place she spent most Christmases with her family.

Many people braved the rainy conditions to lay more tributes at the grounds of the estate. One mourner, who was first on the scene, said she was "lovely" and had "an amazing grace".
