The police blotter is published to give readers an abridged look at criminal activity in their community and neighborhood. It is simply an illustration of what local law enforcement, funded by taxpayers, must deal with daily throughout the Española Valley.

 Española Police officers, Ohkay Owingeh Tribal Police, Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s deputies or State Police responded to the following calls:

  4:35 a.m. A caller reported a pantsless woman was in the lot of Desert Sun Motors, yelling that she was going to kill herself.

  8:27 a.m. A Sacred Heart Church caller said a man is sleeping at the top of the cemetery, under the gazebo. The responding officer told the caller he can’t remove the man without a reason or criminal activity. He said the man isn’t trespassing and goes to visit family buried there.

  9:25 a.m. An Upper San Pedro Road caller reported her house was vandalized with graffiti overnight.

  9:51 a.m. A Camino Familiar caller said he gave a friend a ride to Lowe’s and left him in the truck while he went inside. When the caller came out, the man was gone. When the caller got home, he discovered his TV and generator were stolen.

  12:53 p.m. An El Llano Road caller reported a man with a gun was walking down the street, waving the gun at passing cars. Police found a man matching the description, but he didn’t have a gun.

  2:10 p.m. A Vista del Rio Apartments caller requested courtesy rounds because people are smoking narcotics in the hallway.

  2:41 p.m. A Cañones caller requested a welfare check on a shirtless person lying outside of a car.

  2:57 p.m. An Insurance del Norte caller requested that police disperse five people who are smoking narcotics on the porch.

  2:59 p.m. A larceny was reported at Coronado High School in Coyote.

  3:12 p.m. A Walmart caller requested a welfare check on a man with three children, who are panhandling between Taco Bell and the gas station. The responding officer determined everyone was OK because they have food and water and are in the shade.

  3:25 p.m. A Wendy’s caller said a person is in the drive-thru, bothering customers.

  3:46 p.m. A Navajo Lake caller reported his wife is locked in the bathroom because the lock broke.

  5:28 p.m. A Speedway caller said a woman is panhandling for money.

  6:56 p.m. A Bode’s General Store caller said a drunk man is bugging customers and employees.

  7:22 p.m. A Speedway caller reported a woman on the side of the building is refusing to leave.

  7:26 p.m. A State Road 76 in Chimayó caller said a drunk man is walking and falling into the road.

  8:01 p.m. A La Joya Street caller reported his son is on drugs and banging on the door. He might have active warrants.

  8:07 p.m. A Phillips 66 caller said a drunk man is walking around.

  9:09 p.m. An Ash Loop caller reported a man is walking around his yard and lighting fireworks.

  9:09 p.m. An officer stopped to investigate a possible altercation at the Ohkay Casino.

  9:16 p.m. A Speedway caller said a woman is shoplifting and started causing a scene.

  10:08 p.m. A Tsigo Bugeh Road caller reported a woman on house arrest left the house and was last seen at some apartments in Ohkay Owingeh. The caller said the woman sounded drunk and might be suicidal.

  10:24 p.m. A Pacheco Lane caller said he was beaten up and held hostage in his own house. Police did not find anyone at the house.

  11:35 p.m. A Speedway caller reported a truck has been parked at a pump for an hour and the person inside is throwing trash out their window.

  11:36 p.m. A Private Drive 1607A in Medanales caller reported a 34-year-old woman overdosed on fentanyl.

Grandpa’s got a gun

  12:58 a.m. A vehicle collided with a deer near the Abiquiú Inn.

  6:10 a.m. An Ohkay Eagle Mart caller said the front door windows are shattered.

  7:13 a.m. A State Road 76 in Chimayó caller reported his brother is harassing him and not letting him work.

  8:32 a.m. A Private Drive 1513 in Hernandez caller said a man is going to her house, sleeping inside and locking the door before he leaves.

  1:06 p.m. A caller said there are low-hanging power lines at the intersection of Fairview Lane and North Riverside Drive.

  1:20 p.m. A VA Clinic caller reported someone abandoned a junked bike and the caller wants an officer to look at it and see if it belongs to someone.

  1:37 p.m. A woman walked into the Española Police Department to file a report after she dropped her credit card at Walmart. She said it was picked up and used at several stores.

  1:48 p.m. A woman walked into the Rio Arriba County Sheriff’s Office to file a report for criminal damage.

  2:45 p.m. A Calle del Sol caller said their window is broken and someone took all their jewelry and their TVs.

  4:07 p.m. A Velarde caller said two Blue Heelers are running around, damaging his car.

  6:48 p.m. A Lumberton caller said his 80-year-old grandfather has a pistol and is trying to come and shoot the family.

  9:12 p.m. A Hernandez caller reported power lines are arching and they heard a pop.

  10:04 p.m. A woman called to say a man against whom she has a restraining order, followed her into Speedway and is yelling at her.

  7:49 a.m. A call came into the 911 Center from a house on Lower San Pedro Road and the dispatcher could hear a man and woman arguing. The man said “I’m going to F you up.”

  9:16 a.m. A Desert Sun Motors caller reported the gas tanks on several vehicles were damaged.

  9:37 a.m. A Wendy’s caller said a man and woman are bothering customers and asking for food and money.

  10:09 a.m. A Goodwill caller requested a welfare check on a man lying near the entrance.

  10:10 a.m. A County Road 19 in Española caller reported her five-year-old daughter as missing. The woman called again to say she found the girl, she was in the house and upset because her sister was getting more attention.

  10:46 a.m. An Abiquiú caller said a guy with a bright yellow safety vest told a customer to give him their “effin’” car.

  12:26 p.m. A Rio Grande SUN caller requested courtesy rounds throughout the night because people are sleeping on the loading dock.

  12:32 p.m. A Santa Clara Apartments caller said a man is having a heart attack and is turning blue. Two doses of Narcan were administered and the man came to and refused medical assistance.

  2:33 p.m. A County Road 89 in Chimayó caller reported his cousin was beaten up. 

  3:37 p.m. An officer stopped to check out a man carrying a TV near Pet Sense.

  3:38 p.m. A woman got stuck in her house on Private Drive 1120 in Dixon because of flooding.

  3:50 p.m. A Dixon caller said the ditch is flooding and starting to wash away her RV.

  4:14 p.m. A Food King caller requested a welfare check on a man walking around in circles, looking to be under the influence.

  4:40 p.m. A Bellas Lane caller said there are cars parked in the street, children are playing in the street and people are possibly using drugs.

  5:46 p.m. An El Rito caller reported finding his neighbor lying face-down and not moving.

  7:48 p.m. A Fairview Sonic caller said a man in a car was at the drive-in, drinking Crown Royal.

  8:24 p.m. A Domino’s Pizza caller reported a bunch of homeless men behind the building are using drugs.

  8:41 p.m. A Private Drive 1526 in Hernandez caller said a 28-year-old man is overdosing on heroin. He was given two doses of Narcan.

  8:47 p.m. An officer conducted a traffic stop on El Guique Road and found an unlicensed juvenile driving the car.

  9:40 p.m. A Calle Martinez caller said her husband is drunk and acting like a fool.

  2:27 a.m. A Taco Bell employee requested a welfare check on a man passed out in a car. They didn’t want to go outside and check on him because they have deposit money.

  6:38 a.m. A State Road 76 in Chimayó caller reported finding his door open when he got home. He said things inside his house were moved around.

  6:56 a.m. A US Highway 84 caller said a car with an open door has been parked there for at least a day.

  9:11 a.m. An East Pueblo Street caller reported her gate was opened at 3 a.m. and there’s a lot of traffic in the area all the time.

  9:21 a.m. A La Joya Street caller said an African American woman is sitting on her fence and she threw water at the caller during an argument.

  9:51 a.m. A hit-and-run was reported near Food King.

  9:57 a.m. A Ranchitos Pool caller said someone broke in and damaged the pool

  10:44 a.m. A County Road 1 in Hernandez caller reported a gold dog with an ugly face is on their property and they want it removed.

  10:51 a.m. A Camino Familiar caller said dogs from Simmons Lane attacked and injured her dog.

  11:05 a.m. A La Segunda Thrift Store in Dixon caller reported $800 worth of jewelry, a cell phone and charger were taken.

  11:08 a.m. A Santa Clara Apartments caller said a bunch of females are physically fighting in the hallway.

  12 p.m. A LA Top Nails caller reported a person doesn’t want to leave.

  12:07 p.m. An Allsups caller said a man is passed out in the dumpster.

  12:31 p.m. A Bonecutter Lane caller reported her daughter is out of control and throwing things and CYFD won’t do anything about it.

  1:33 p.m. A BOLO was issued for a vehicle that was taken from a gas station in Pojoaque.

  1:35 p.m. A Murphy’s Express caller said a man is on the toilet and is overdosing. One dose of Narcan was administered.

  1:51 p.m. A 76 Plaza caller reported someone is stealing copper.

  2:21 p.m. A Walmart caller said a man hit another man with something and they were on the ground.

  4:04 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man who’s on his knees on the side of the road near the Ohkay Travel Center.

  6:06 p.m. An Ohkay Express caller requested a welfare check on a man in a car who’s nodding out.

  7:44 p.m. An El Guique caller reported her grandson went outside to check on the air conditioner and the caller’s brother-in-law threatened to kill them.

  7:50 p.m. A deputy was flagged down on Cemetery Road in Jicarilla by a person who wanted to report a breaking-and-entering after the fact.

  7:52 p.m. A Walgreens caller asked that a woman be trespassed because she’s arguing with an employee.

  8:32 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a shirtless man walking in the middle of the road near the Santa Cruz Country Store.

  8:49 p.m. A caller in Lindrith requested help because his truck got stuck on the side of the road, in a ravine.

  9:03 p.m. A Camino Cielo Grande caller said two men are trying to open her windows.

  9:31 p.m. An officer stopped to check on a woman who’s asleep in her car at Speedway.

  9:32 p.m. A Lowe’s Home Improvement caller said several vehicles are squealing tires and doing burnouts.

  9:39 p.m. A Days Inn caller reported several men are fighting and one possibly has a knife.

  10:41 p.m. A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller said people are in his house and officers need to hurry. He said one person has a gun.

  11:15 p.m. a caller said people are spinning out and driving recklessly near La Arboleda Senior Center in Chimayó.

  11:16 p.m. A La Joya Street caller reported a storage unit was broken into and the person is still there.

  12:30 a.m. A Calle del Alamo caller reported hearing loud people and possibly shots fired. An officer took a report for a breaking and entering after the fact.

  9:29 a.m. A Walgreens caller reported three men and a woman are aggressively panhandling.

  10:29 a.m. A hit-and-run occurred in the Walmart parking lot while a woman was in the store.

  10:46 a.m. A man reported someone stole items from him and is now trying to sell them back to him.

  10:48 a.m. A man walked into the Española Police Department to file a report for a lost gun.

  1:36 p.m. An East Buena Vista Drive caller said a woman is going crazy outside.

  2:35 p.m. A caller reported a car is dragging a person at Calle Hacienda and North Riverside Drive.

  3:03 p.m. A Little Caesar’s caller said three people are harassing customers and asking for money as they walk in.

  4 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man lying on the ground near Murphy’s Express.

  4:22 p.m. A Days Inn caller said a woman is yelling and threatening the caller in the lobby.

  5:44 p.m. A Villa del Norte Apartments caller reported people are up to no good and are partying.

  5:57 p.m. A Private Drive 1513 in Hernandez caller said her neighbor hit her car and she wants to file a report.

  6:09 p.m. A County Road 6 in Española caller reported her nephew was stabbed in the arm.

  6:31 p.m. A Rio del Oso Street in Chama caller said the neighbor is yelling at them and saying they’re going to shoot her dog. A deputy called the woman  back and she said she was very drunk and doesn’t remember calling.

  7:02 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a one-year-old child in Chamita because her mother has a warrant out of Los Alamos and is allegedly sleeping with drug dealers.

  7:53 p.m. A Juniper Road caller requested a welfare check on a pedestrian because someone in a car was yelling at the person then started following them.

  8:31 p.m. A Private Drive 1526 in Hernandez caller reported a 50-year-old man is overdosing on heroin. One dose of Narcan was administered and the man came to but refused medical treatment.

  8:37 p.m. A Chama caller said a 50-year-old woman is not responsive but is breathing.

  9:12 p.m. A Brazos caller said a man pulled a rifle on him and tried to murder him, then tried to run over him.

  10:21 p.m. A Glenwood Avenue caller reported seeing a man underneath a vehicle, trying to get the catalytic converter off. He said the man ran off but left his flashlight behind.

  11:15 p.m. A Cook’s Mobile Home Park caller said someone in a car is driving around, throwing bottles at trailers.

  12:03 a.m. A Rio Arriba County Fairgrounds caller reported an underage girl is drunk and unconscious.

  2:24 a.m. A Kennedy Loop caller reported his girlfriend was found on the side of the bed, unconscious and not breathing. He said she took medication but doesn’t know what kind. The Bureau of Indian Affairs called the Office of the Medical Investigator.

  3:03 a.m. A Phillips 66 caller said a man looks to be tampering with the washing equipment.

  5:30 a.m. A Food King caller reported a man had a baseball bat and threatened to break the windows.

  6:15 a.m. A Santa Clara Apartments caller said a group of people are doing drugs.

  9:02 a.m. A Lucero Center caller reported a man is dragging an air conditioner.

  9:49 a.m. A deputy stopped to do a welfare check on a man sleeping in front of the Mountainview Mall in Chama.

  11:03 a.m. A caller said a man stole his bikes a while back and is now trying to sell them back to the caller via Facebook.

  11:03 a.m. A caller reported two people are trying to open an electrical box at Fairview Lane and North McCurdy Road.

  11:07 a.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a woman lying on the ground near South McCurdy Road and El Llano Road.

  11:08 a.m. A Rincon de Estella caller reported the death of a woman.

  11:09 a.m. A caller said the lights in front of the Plaza de Española are not working.

  11:31 a.m. A Walmart caller reported someone stole $100 worth of toys.

  11:51 a.m. A Hudson Lane caller said a water pump was stolen from his property.

  12:02 p.m. A Rue 21 caller reported four or five people are doing drugs by the back door.

  1:12 p.m. A Private Drive 1511 in Hernandez caller said people are harassing her in her driveway. She thinks they might be drug users from the area.

  2:08 p.m. A Hernandez Elementary caller reported a man and woman are in a truck and there’s a gun in it. They said the woman looks scared.

  3:04 p.m. A Velarde caller reported her 16-year-old son is being erratic and threatened to harm himself and put a knife to his throat.

  5:04 p.m. A La Joya Street caller reported his ex-roommate is there and is threatening to break in.

  5:15 p.m. A Hernandez caller said a car ran him off the road. After the car ran him off the road, the driver went down the road, slammed on the brakes and passed out.

  6:57 p.m. A County Road 1 in Hernandez caller reported a woman that was removed has returned and she broke a window.

  4:11 a.m. An Española Hospital caller reported a man was assaulted in Alcalde.

  7:52 a.m. A Santa Cruz Post Office caller said a homeless person is sleeping under a counter. 

 8:01 a.m. A County Road 44A in Alcalde caller reported giving a person money for a puppy but now they won’t give her the puppy and they’re threatening her.

  2:07 p.m. A North McCurdy Road caller said a man just attempted to steal his vehicle.

  2:19 p.m. A Saiz Lane caller reported children are playing in a running ditch and they think it’s too dangerous to be playing in running water. The officer discovered the childrens’ parents were watching them.

  2:23 p.m. A La Mesilla caller said someone backed into her car.

  2:23 p.m. A Vallecitos caller reported hearing five consecutive gunshots. She wants a deputy to call her before going to the neighbor’s house to investigate because she said they are meth users and she feels threatened.

  3:37 p.m. A Calle Don Francisco caller said his shed was broken into.

  4:14 p.m. A Walmart caller reported the doors are locked and she thinks it’s a fire code violation. The dispatcher asked if the south doors were open and the woman got upset and said she’d be calling the fire command, then hung up.

  4:48 P.M. A Center Market caller said a man and woman have been there, panhandling, since this morning. They were asked to leave but won’t.

  11:27 p.m. A caller requested a welfare check on a man on North Riverside Drive who’s outside yelling. Police determined he was just practicing his dancing.
